Strategies to Tackle the Shortage of Central Staffing Scheme Officers at Senior Level

The Indian Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension has issued an office memorandum on the current shortage of officers at the Deputy Secretary/Director level under the Central Staffing Scheme and possible measures to deal with the shortage. The memorandum notes that the Department of Expenditure has agreed to the extension/continuation of the pick and drop facility to DS/Director level officers working under the Central Staffing Scheme beyond February 15, 2023, for a period of 3 years. The administrative ministry must ensure that the same terms and conditions are adhered to, and those getting this facility are not receiving Transport Allowance. Ministries/Departments are requested to optimize the use of general duty vehicles to provide this facility and keep additional car hiring to a minimum. Additionally, they are asked to maintain records of additional vehicles hired, if any, and the associated expenditures involved.
