The Indian Ministry of Railways has issued a directive to all Zonal Railways and Production Units regarding the provision of domestic PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections in residential units belonging to Railways. The directive refers to a previous permission granted to Northern Railway and Western Railway for laying PNG pipelines to Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) and Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), respectively. It clarifies that proposals from gas agencies approved by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Authority may be considered on merit, and no way leave charges for laying PNG gas pipelines in railway colonies for providing PNG facilities to railway beneficiaries are to be levied. The directive recommends adopting the model approved by Western Railway for dealing with such cases, with the concurrence of FA&CAO and approval of the General Manager. The directive is considered a welfare measure and was approved by the Finance Directorate.
