Court asks CBI to submit probe report of recruitment scam

Hyderabad: A local court Monday asked the CBI to file a report before it by tomorrow on investigation into the alleged multi-crore Railway recruitment scam.

The Judge of the Special Court for CBI cases, gave the orders while hearing a petition by the premier investigative agency seeking a 10-day custody of S N Sharma, suspended chairman of the Railway Recruitment Board (Mumbai) and G Sethi, senior divisional personnel officer at Raipur.

The two officials are presently under judicial remand till July 1 and the CBI wants to interrogate the duo to elicit more information in connection with the alleged scam, it told the court.

The judge then posted further hearing in the matter to tomorrow. It also adjourned hearing of another petition of CBI seeking further interrogation of three other accused in the alleged scam.

The CBI had on June 19 claimed to have unearthed a multi-crore Railway recruitment scam and had arrested eight persons, including Vivek Bhardwaj Sharma, son of Sharma, A K Jagannatham, the then ADRM in Raipur and his son Srujan, who are presently under judicial custody at the Chanchalguda Jail.

The CBI, which has so far apprehended 11 persons in connection with the case, had arrested Sharma and Sethi on June 23 while a Mumbai-based Railway contractor Manish Patesaria, who was arrested on June 25, is also under judicial remand till July 1.

The CBI has named a total of 18 persons in the case and launched a manhunt to nab seven more accused including three from Andhra Pradesh.

The agency claimed that Jagannatham was the kingpin of the scam and that there was a Rs 1 crore deal with some RRB officials to leak question papers.

As part of the deal, an amount of Rs 55 lakh was already paid to the officials of RRB, Mumbai, it alleged.
