A mythological story mentioned in Bhavishya Purana is very popular. It is said that a long time ago there lived a Vaishya named Dharmadas who was of a very charitable nature. One day he came to know about the importance of Akshaya Tritiya that worshiping gods and brahmins on the third day of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month and by making donations gives Akshaya fruit. When he came to know about this, he started doing Akshaya Tritiya fast with full rituals and started donating materials like sattu, gram, wheat, curd, jaggery etc. Meanwhile, his wife forbade him a lot but she did not agree and completed the fast of Akshaya Tritiya with reverence.
After some time he died and it is said that some days later he was born full time as a king in some mati city of Dwarka. It is said that he got Raja Yoga as a result of fasting on Akshaya Tritiya.
