West Bengal employees agitate, fast for Dearness Allowance

May 22, 2012 by rajasinghmurugesan 1 Comment

While the new state Govt. is celebrating it’s first anniversary, employees are not in a jubilant mood. The CM though promised to sit with the employees once in a month to address their problems, no such meeting took place in the last nine months. The main and foremost concern of the staffers are regarding D.A. State Govt. has increased D.A. @10% from January this year and the gap with central D.A came down to 13%. But with the Central Govt. announcement of another 7% hike from 1st Jan 12 the difference shoot up to 20%. This makes a huge difference of the take home pay of the employees, sometimes in thousands depending upon the pay scale. Another 21 states have also followed central suit. INTUC affiliated Confederation of State Govt. Employees declared agitation in near future while another organization "Unity Forum" started "fast to death" in front of the finance ministry office demanding immediate release of D.A.

Finance ministry source however denied any possibility of releasing D.A. at this crucial juncture where it has been difficult to arrange timely pay and pension. With inputs from Anandabazar Patrika.
