Enhancing Opportunities for Education of Minorities: More Post-Matric Scholarships Sanctioned

The Ministry of Minority Affairs has sanctioned Post-matric scholarship to 76,466 students belonging to Minority communities till 30th September 2010. The target for the current Financial Year under this Scheme has been set at 4 lakh scholarships with a provision of Rs. 265 crore. Out of this amount Rs. 116.47 crore has been released to the states. The Post-matric scholarship Scheme is covered under the Prime Minister’s New 15 Point Programme for the Welfare of Minorities. During last Financial Year the achievement under this Scheme was 3.87 lakh scholarships, which was 87,000 more than the target set for the year and the amount utilized was Rs. 149.79 crore.
