8th Central Pay Commission: No Proposal Under Consideration
In response to a query raised in the Rajya Sabha, the Ministry of Finance has officially clarified that the government is not considering the constitution of the 8th Central Pay Commission for central government employees at this time. The question, raised by Members of Parliament Shri Javed Ali Khan and Shri Ramji Lal Suman, sought to address whether the government had plans to announce the new pay commission in the upcoming Budget session of February 2025 due to rising inflationary trends.
The Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, categorically stated:
- No Proposal Considered: The government currently has no proposal for the constitution of the 8th Central Pay Commission.
- Fiscal Condition Not a Factor: As the issue of constitution is not under consideration, the fiscal condition of the Union Government has not been cited as a reason.
This clarification is significant as central government employees have been anticipating an announcement regarding the next pay commission to address the challenges posed by inflation and cost-of-living increases. However, as per the government’s official stance, there are no immediate plans to initiate this process.
The 7th Central Pay Commission recommendations, implemented in 2016, currently govern the salaries and benefits of central government employees. Historically, pay commissions have been constituted every 10 years. While expectations for the 8th Pay Commission remain high, the government’s current position signals no developments in the near future.
Key Takeaways:
- No proposal for the 8th Pay Commission is under active consideration.
- Inflationary trends and fiscal conditions are not being factored in at this stage.
- Central government employees will continue under the 7th Pay Commission framework.
