New Option to Avail CGHS Benefits for Parents and Parents-in-law

July 30, 2023 Eliza

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, has issued an Office Memorandum dated July, 2023, with reference to a previous memorandum from 1987. The new memorandum grants Central Government employees the option to choose between availing Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) benefits for either their parents or parents-in-law.

This choice applies to both male and female employees, subject to conditions of dependence and residence being met. The new provision expands the definition of ‘Family’ for CGHS benefits and supersedes all previous memorandums on this matter. The memorandum aims to provide more flexibility and convenience for Central Government employees in availing health benefits under the CGHS scheme.
