Ex-Servicemen’s Second Careers in Civilian Workforce

The Ministry of Defence, Government of India, has taken significant steps to provide ex-servicemen with a second career through collaboration with the Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) and IBM. On July 21, 2023, the Minister of Defence confirmed in a parliamentary session that an MoU has been signed between DGR and IBM to facilitate the seamless integration of ex-servicemen into the civilian workforce.

SECOND CAREER TO EX-SERVICEMEN

    Will the Minister of DEFENCE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Directorate General Resettlement(DGR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IBM to engage ex-servicemen with the objective of providing them a second career and to facilitate their seamless integration into the civilian workforce;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the DGR will collaborate with IBM through this MoU to tap into the rich talent pool of ex-servicemen for relevant job opportunities in the company and its affiliates for professional growth and personal development;

(d) if so, the details thereof along with theprogress made in this regard; and

(e) the other steps being taken by the Government to identify ex-servicemen with skill set and aptitude suitable for various open positions within such companies?

IN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE

(a) & (b): Yes, Sir. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) and IBM was signed on 27th Jun, 2023. Details of the MoU are as under:-

(i) It is a non-binding MoU wherein IBM is desirous of engaging with ex-servicemen from military background with an intent to hire such individuals, if found suitable, for multiple opportunities that have arisen and may continue to arise at IBM and/or its affiliates. DGR and IBM intend to collaborate on their mutual goal of helping ex-servicemen from military background pursue their corporate careers.

(ii) The MoU is valid from the date of signing the MoU, however, the same may be terminated by either Party vide a written notice to that effect of not less than 30 (Thirty) days.

(c) & (d): Yes, Sir. Modalities will be jointly worked out between DGR and IBM.

(e): DGR connects with companies and industry bodies to seek employment for Ex-servicemen as per their skill sets.
