Providing Compassionate Appointment for Family Members of Deceased Trainees

The Ministry of Railways has issued a new ruling regarding the grant of compassionate appointments to the spouse, ward, or dependent of deceased trainee employees. According to the ruling, the spouse of a deceased employee whose ward was appointed on compassionate grounds and died while undergoing training may nominate either another ward, themselves, or the widow of the deceased trainee for consideration. The ruling also states that if the spouse of the deceased employee is not alive for nomination, then the widow or wife of the deceased trainee may be considered, or another ward of the original employee may be considered if the trainee was unmarried.

All Zonal Railways/Production Units,

Sub: Grant of compassionate appointment to spouse/ward/dependent of deceased trainee employees.

Ref: Board’s letter No. E(NG)II/2019/RC-1/5 dated 04.06.2019 (RBE No. 90/2019).

Attention is invited to para 3 (a) of Board’s letter referred above which lays down that “The spouse of the deceased employee whose ward was appointed on compassionate ground and died in harness while undergoing the pre-requisite training may be permitted to nominate either another ward/herself or the widow of the deceased trainee for compassionate appointment consideration.”

  1. Pursuant to demand raised by the staff side, Ministry of Railways (Railway Board), have decided to modify para 3(a) of Board’s letter No.E(NG)II/2019/RC-1/5 dated 04.06.2019, which may be read as under:-

“The spouse of the deceased employee, whose ward was appointed on compassionate ground and died/medically incapacitated while undergoing the pre-requisite training, may be permitted to nominate either another ward/herself or the widow/wife of the deceased/medically incapacitated trainee for compassionate appointment consideration.

In case the spouse of deceased employee is not alive for nomination then:-

i) if deceased/medically incapacitated CGA trainee is married then widow/wife of deceased/medically incapacitated CGA trainee may be considered for CGA.

ii) if deceased/medically incapacitated CGA trainee is unmarried then another ward of original employee may be considered for CGA.”
