Pitru Tarpan Mantra Vidhi Overview
Meaning of Shradh and Tarpan: The actions performed with truth and reverence are Shradh and the work which satisfies the mother, father and Acharya is the Tarpan. In the Vedas, Shradh is called Pitri Yagya.
This Shradh-Tarpan is a gesture of respect towards our ancestors, mother, father and Acharya. It is believed that this is the only way to satisfy the ancestors. Who can do Tarpan: Son, grandson, nephew, nephew, anyone can perform Shradh. If there is no male member in the house but the daughter is in the family, then Dhevata and son-in-law can also perform Shradh. Shradh can also be performed by a pandit.
Grandfather Tarpan Mantra
Take the name of your gotra and say, Gotre asmatpitamaha (name of grandfather) Sharma Vasurupat tripyatamidam tilodakam ganga jalam va tasmai svadha nama, tasmai svadha nama, tasmai svadha nama. Give water to the grandfather 3 times with this mantra.
Grandmother’s Tarpan Mantra
(Take the name of the clan) Gotre pitamaan (name of grandmother) Devi Vasurupast tripyatamidam tilodakam ganga jalam va tasmai svadha nama, tasmai svadha nama, tasmai svadha nama. In this mantra, give water to the grandmother as many times as you have given water to the mother. The importance of faith in Shraddha is the highest, so when giving water, keep in mind the faith of parents and ancestors. Only food and water given with devotion are accepted by the ancestors. If there is no faith, the ancestors do not accept it.
Father Tarpan Mantra
Take the name of your gotra and say, Gotre asmatapita (father’s name) Sharma Vasurupat tripyatamidam tilodakam ganga jalam va tasmai svadha nama, tasmai svadha nama, tasmai svadha nama
After reciting this mantra, mix milk, sesame seeds and barley in Ganga water or other water and offer Jalanjali to the father 3 times. When giving water, meditate that my father in the form of Vasu should be satisfied by receiving water. Then give water to the grandfather.
Mother tarpan mantra
Those whose mother has departed from this world should also give water to the mother. The mantra of giving water to mother is different from that of father and grandfather. The rules for giving water to them are also different. Since the mother’s debt is considered the greatest. Therefore, they are watered more frequently than addressed. Mantra for giving water to mother – (Take the name of the clan) Gotre asmanmata (name of the mother) Devi Vasurupast tripyatamidam tilodakam ganga jalam va tasmai svadha nama, tasmai svadha nama, tasmai svadha nama. Read this mantra and offer Jalanjali 16 times in the east direction, 7 times in the north direction and 14 times in the south direction.
Pitru Tarpan Vidhi :
- Chant your gotra and offer tarpan to your father thrice by taking his father’s name.
- Chant your gotra, take the name of Grandfather (Pitamah) and offer him tarpan thrice.
- Pronounce your gotra, take the name of father’s grandfather (Prapitamah) and offer him tarpan thrice.
- Chant your maternal grandfather’s gotra, take his maternal grandfather’s name and offer him tarpan three times.
- Chant your maternal grandfather’s gotra and offer tarpan thrice by taking the name of grandfather’s father (but maternal grandfather).
- Chant your maternal grandfather’s gotra and offer tarpan three times by taking the name of grandfather’s grandfather (grandfather on old age).
- Chant your maternal grandfather’s gotra and offer tarpan thrice by taking the name of your grandmother.
- Chant your maternal grandfather’s gotra and offer tarpan thrice by taking the name of maternal grandfather’s mother (but grandmother).
- Chant your maternal grandfather’s gotra and offer tarpan thrice by taking the name of grandmother’s grandmother (granny in old age).
- Chant your gotra and offer tarpan three times by taking the names of all the deceased family members from your deceased (who is a deceased) wife. Along with the family, offer tarpan to the late aunt, uncle, aunt, friend and guru.
