Hindi Diwas Overview
Hindi Diwas is celebrated every year on 14 September in India. On that day it was decided which languages are to be given the official language status in the constitution of India. And from henceforth, Hindi Diwas or Hindi Day is celebrated every year. Hindi Diwas signifies the importance of Hindi language and showcases its rich history and socio-political importance. In the context of Indo-Aryan language, the Constituent Assembly of India recognized Hindi as the official language of the newly formed nation in 1949.
When India became independent, efforts were made by the government to widen the reach of the language. But just before that in its Karachi session in 1925, the Indian National Congress had decided to merge the Hindustani-Hindi and Urdu languages together. But later it was amended and it was suggested in the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan that Hindi alone should be made the national language. Hindi as a language not only commands respect but is also widely spoken.
