Bhagavad Gita Overview

In Bhagavad Gita, 18 chapters and 700 verses are explained in detail in the Gita. A conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjuna is narrated in these verses. This conversation took place between the two during the Mahabharata war.

During the Mahabharata war, when Arjuna refused to fight, Lord Krishna taught him through these verses and gave Arjuna the true knowledge of dharma and karma. These teachings of Sri Krishna were compiled in a book called “Bhagavad Gita”. By reading and understanding these shlokas, a person can make his life very beautiful.

  1. Sri Krishna preached the song to Arjuna himself. Bhishma’s reason for not doing so was that he fought on the side of the unrighteous Kauravas, saying that justice, dharma, was on the side of the Pandavas.
  2. There is a difference between thinking, saying and doing. That is, there is no trinity. Such people are not worthy of enlightenment.
  3. Dharmaraja is righteous but he has no regrets except his repentance. He who inquires about the good and bad of a deed before he does it, is a sinner.
  4. After gambling and losing and falling into the forest, he repented and began to atone for what had happened.
  5. I didn’t think about the consequences beforehand. Those who do not have premeditation are not eligible for Gitabodha.
  6. Arjuna entering the battlefield, seeing all his men and killing so many, begging is better than enjoying this kingdom.
  7. What joy can we enjoy ruling this kingdom when everyone is dead? He inquired in advance that I cannot fight even if I am given Trilokashadhipata.
  8. He prayed to Lord Krishna to make him a disciple and teach him duty. So the Gita was taught to Arjuna himself. Foreboding comes only to those who have a pure heart.
  9. A pure heart is worthy of enlightenment.

Lord Krishna addresses Arjuna by many names in the Gita. What are they? What does he mean?

1) Arjuna: – Pure and pure minded.

2) Partha: – Son of Pridhivi (of Earth). Pridhi is the name of Kunti Devi. Also the son of the earth means Parth, the representative of all human beings of the world.

4) Anasuya – One who is not jealous.
