Jan Aushadhi Medicine List 2022 Overview
The Jan Aushadhi initiative will make available quality drugs at affordable prices through dedicated stores selling generic medicines which are available at lesser prices but are equivalent in quality and efficacy as expensive branded drugs. Promote greater awareness about cost effective drugs and their prescription.
The scheme, launched in 2008, envisages key initiative of opening of dedicated outlets i.e. ‘Jan Aushadhi Stores’ where high quality generic medicines would be sold at low prices. Such medicines would be equivalent in potency and efficacy to expensive branded drugs.
The quality, safety and efficacy of medicines are ensured by getting each batch of medicines procured from CPSUs as well as private suppliers tested from NABL approved laboratories and conforming to the required standards before the same are supplied to Super stockists.

- Unbranded generic medicines are one way to help make them more affordable. We support public-private partnerships as a solution to this problem.
- Doctors, especially those in government hospitals, should prescribe generic medicines more often.
- Poor patients have limited access to quality healthcare, which is mainly due to their inability to afford the hefty costs of treatments. For example, if a patient needs a drug for a condition that cannot be ‘cured’ like obesity, they might need it for life. Due to this lack of availability and expensive drugs, many poor people are left without any form of treatment.
