Divaso Vrat Katha in Gujarati
Divaso is a unique ritual performed on Amavasya or new moon day in the month of Ashadha in Gujarat. The date of Divaso 2022 is July 28. This ritual is dedicated to Goddess Parvati and is performed as an invitation to the month of Shravan starting from the next day. The holy month of Shravan is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In some regions, the fast marks the arrival of the month of Shravan. It is also celebrated for a happy and prosperous family life. This ritual is also associated with the Avarat and Jeevat fasts observed on the same day. On the previous evening of Divas, married women light a lamp and keep it for the next 36 hours – until the month of Shravan begins. In some areas, the seed is sown in a small container and a lamp is placed in front of it. From this ritual the name of the fast is named Divaso. Divaso – ‘Deep Vaso’ means the abode of the lamp. Kheer, Kansar or other sweets are served to friends, relatives and neighbours.
