Thoughts of Bhimrao Ambedkar Overview

Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated every year on 14 April. The birth anniversary of Bhimrao Ambedkar is celebrated as Equality Day and Knowledge Day in India. This day is also celebrated as ‘Ambedkar Equality Day’ in British Columbia, Canada.

One of India’s foremost social reformers, Ambedkar is known for his fight against the inequalities created by India’s caste system. Born in a Dalit family, Ambedkar grew up witnessing the exploitation and discrimination of his community, which inspired him to launch a lifelong crusade for equality.

  • “The relation between husband and wife should be like that of close friends.”

  • There is no scope for the development of conscience, reason and independent thinking in Hinduism.
  • History shows that where there is a conflict between morality and economics, economics always wins. Vested interests have not been voluntarily abandoned unless force is exerted enough to compel.
  • The development of intelligence should be the ultimate goal of human existence.
  • Equality may be a fantasy, but it has to be accepted as a governing principle nonetheless.
  • If I feel that the Constitution is being misused, I will be the first to burn it.
  • Unless you achieve social freedom, whatever freedom the law gives you is meaningless to you.
  • Equality may be a fantasy, but it has to be accepted as a governing principle nonetheless.
