The new crop insurance scheme is in line with the One Nation-One Scheme theme. It incorporates the best features of all the previous plans and at the same time, removes all the previous shortcomings/weaknesses. PMFBY will replace the existing two schemes Rashtriya Krishi Bima Yojana as well as the revised NAIS.
The scheme will be implemented on the basis of ‘area approach’ i.e. defined areas for each notified crop for widespread calamities, with the assumption that a unit of insurance covers all the insured farmers as “notified area” for a crop. will be defined in Experiencing the same risk exposure, substantially the same cost of production per hectare, earning comparable agricultural income per hectare, and experiencing the same extent of crop loss due to the operation of an insured risk in the notified area.
Objectives

- To stabilize the income of farmers to ensure continuity in farming.
- To encourage farmers to adopt new and modern farming practices.
- To ensure flow of credit to the agriculture sector.
