Dear Sir/Madam,

Public holiday on 24th May, 2017 on account of polling of General Election/By-Election

We enclose a copy of notification No.PHD.1317/418/C.R.93/29 dated 22nd May, 2017 issued by the Government or Maharashtra declaring Wednesday, the 24th May, 2017 as Public Holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (XXVI of 1881), on account of polling of General Election/ By-Election, 2017 in the Muncipal Corporations, Muncipal Councils, Nagarpanchayatis, Panchayat Samiti and Election Wards mentioned therein.

This is for information of member banks.

2. The Voters of the above listed Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, Nagarpanchayatis and Panchayat Samiti, Election Wards respectively, who work outside the applicable jurisdiction, will also be entitled to avail of this Public holiday.

3.This public holiday is being notified as per section 25 of Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (26 of 1881).

4.This public holiday is being given to Government and Semi-Government employees who are voters within the respective jurisdiction of the above institutions to enable them to vote during the elections / by-election. Therefore, concerned voter employees should cast their votes on the polling day. They should consciously use their right to vote for this, the concerned heads of offices should exhort accordingly their voter employees.

5.All the departments in Mantralaya are requested to bring these instructions to the notice of the concerned Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, Nagarpanchayatis and Panchayat Samiti, and other organizations under their administrative control and advise them to extend this facility to their employees.
