Subject: Appointment on Compassionate Grounds
Railway Board have agreed to issue orders/clarifications on the subject as follows:-
“It has been decided that in case of appointment of a widow/wife not fulfilling the requirement of educational qualification. She will be placed in Group ‘C’ Pay Band-I (Rs. 5200-20200) + Grade Pay Rs. 1800/- directly without insisting on fulfillment of educational qualification provided the appointing authority is satisfied that the duties of the post against which she is being appointed can be performed with the help of some ‘On- job training’ to be given while in service.
Following further clarifications are also expected from the Railway Board:-
(i) A person appointed as Trainee on compassionate ground has to acquire the minimum
educational qualification for the post within a maximum period of 5 years.
(ii) The probation period of the person so appointed as Trainee will begin from the date she joins the
Post and will last till she acquires minimum educational qualification. Such person will be on
probation for a period specified in the Recruitment Rules of the post/grade against she is to be
appointed.
(iii) A Trainee thus appointed will have the status of Railway servant from initial/first day. Thus
dependent of an appointed person on compassionate ground as ‘Trainee’ would be eligible for
compassionate appointment in the event of her death in harness/medical unfitness.
Formal orders are under issue by the Railway Board’s Office.
This may be given wide publicity.
